Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet is a globally recognized orthopedic surgeon based in Lyon, France, specializing in knee ligament injuries and sports trauma. A graduate of the University of Paris and trained under leading surgeons in Edinburgh, and Lyon, he currently practices at the Centre Orthopédique Santy, a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence. In 2022, Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet defended a PhD thesis focused on the neurological consequences of ACL injuries, using functional MRI to explore brain activity following ACL rupture. Dr. Sonnery-Cottet is also the current President of the French Arthroscopy Society (SFA).
Renowned for his expertise in ACL and multi-ligament knee reconstruction—performing over 600 ACL reconstructions annually. He founded the SANTI Study Group, an international research network advancing knee injury management, and actively contributes to global education through fellowships and training programs.
He has authored over 250 scientific publications, delivered more than 300 international presentations, and received prestigious awards including the AANA Richard O'Connor Award, the AOSSM David Sisk Award, the VJSM Blockbuster Award and the On/AOSSM Research Award. Dr. Sonnery-Cottet is considered a leader in his field.
